Freedom Kayak & Walk
Leaving from Marahau, get up close on your kayak to explore the caves, beaches, rocky outcrops and islands. You are in control of your trip up the astrolabe, leaving your kayak (by 3pm) at either Observation Bay, or Anchorage depending on the weather. From here, you get to explore the forest and beach on foot, heading back toward Marahau. The Barn is 100m from the end of the track.
This is our favorite unguided trip, due to the amount of different things you get to experience in one day!

The Freedom Kayak & Walk starts off from Marahau, the entrance to the Abel Tasman, you will kayak into the astrolabe at your own leisure in a double kayak with you exploring buddy. Depending on the weather on the day, you can leave you kayak at Anchorage or observation beach for someone else to pick up later. Have a bit of lunch, go for a swim and then spend the afternoon walking the track back into Marahau. This is a great way to explore the Abel Tasman as you get to do two different things in one day! The end of the track is then only 100m away from The Barn. Just look out for our glamping tents!
Kayaking the Abel Tasman is one of the very best ways to explore NZ’s favourite coastal National Park. Get up close with your kayak to explore the caves, beaches, rocky outcrops and islands. Find that private beach for lunch, discover the local seals and seal pups, and see nature in action.
