The Baths

Motueka Salt baths - abel tasman trips - the barn

Set into the bank and overlooking the Tasman bay, the Motueka Salt Baths are set up in an awesome location! It is kitted out with wooden decks for sunbathing, a playground, a picnic area, and even some BBQ facilities. So bring the Kids down some a few bombs, and set up a picnic overlooking the Tasman Bay! The views can be fantastic coming onto sunset as well, especially around sunset with a high tide!

It’s a great spot to cool off on the way through Motueka, and really get a feel for the local way of life. A favorite spot for kids and adults alike.

The idea was initially crafted in the 1920s after a shark sitting spooked a few of the locals. After going through a few iterations over the last 100 years it is currently in a pretty functional and useful state.

The Toad Hall is just down the road for a few drinks and/or lunch afterward.

Janie Seddon Shipwreck

Just a thousand meters up the road is the infamous Janie Seddon Shipwreck. Long abandoned and rusted over it still makes for a great photo and some timely inspiration for the kids.
