The Kaiteri Mountain Bike Park

The Mountain Bike Park

The Mountain Bike Park

If you are staying at The Barn and are after an awesome adventure filled with epic scenery, beautiful climbs, and all-around good times Just 15mins away at the Kaiteriteri bike park!

Trails ranging from nice mellow flow trails through to steep technical descent all riding in native NZ bush! The park is split into three main sections (Monster hub, Shady hub, Ziggy Hub)

Monester Hub

Monster Hub has nice easy trails like swamp monster into halfpipe back up cruise control, these two trails are nice and fun for all riders real easy corners nice steady grandaunt lots of fun side hits to be had! There is also fresh drinking water supplied here for the hot sunny days!

Shady Hub

The Shady Hub is at the bottom of lots of fun trails including, tree huger, remedy, flaming Nora, and many more these trails are slightly more technical, I would recommend tree huger and remedy highly. With small drops, tight tree lines and Rooty runs! these are open to those more confident riders wanting some gnar!

Ziggy Hub

The Kaiteri Mountain Bike Park

Ziggy hub is here where your journey to the top of the park will begin with a short climb up Ziggy then following an awesome ascent of corkscrew winding your way to the top lookout which has a million-dollar view overlooking Kaiteriteri bay! Corkscrew is just a 3km & 270m accent highly worth it for the trails up there and especially the view!!! If you have a spare bottle opener add it to the post, they have up there designed for corkscrews!!

From here you have access to Jaws a peoples favorite resulting in real flow, awesome jumps, berms, and a fast descent taking you back to the top of the Ziggy climb where you can drop into weka, split into cheeky and dark, dark weka is an expert run with Rooty sections Nice Berns and steep drops, cheeky weka is an advance grade it holds the same fun berms and tight corners just minus the hard roots and steep drops, taking you back to the Ziggy hub!

The Mountain Forestry Road

Another 800 meters from the top of the corkscrew is the forestry road which holds some of the more gnarly and my favorite runs in the mountain bike park. From the top of the small climb up the forest road, you’ll take a left turn immediately on your left is another small up which takes you to GST. Now, this is the start of the most enjoyable link you can do, heading down GST, bumblebee, velocity, Big airs. You’ll have tight fast corners, steep drops, really fast narrow Rooty decent, followed by a jump line big air! This jump line is epic they are built in a way that every rider can ride big airs as you can roll over every jump so a complete beginner can roll through the jumps and at the same time big riders can through huge whips and love it! A trail for all!!

A lot more hidden away are trails such as Flaming Nora which is tight, fast, Rooty as super fun sketchy descent taking you back to the shady hub, you’ll find the top section of velocity which is again real fast and Rooty with some steep tight corners aimed at very experienced downhill riders. If you follow this trail all the way then you’ll come out at Ziggy hub!

A hidden gem if you’re into technical trails is Kamakazi as the name suggests this Is a loose ride with real steep big boulders and fast sections this is the most technical trail the park has to offer 100% recommend if you want to push yourself as you’ll come out feeling so stoked!!!! The cool thing about kamikaze is just before you drop into it there’s a big tree you can climb up and they’ve actually built a deck chair in the top canopy of the tree and you have the best view overlooking the Tasman bay that not many people know about!!!!

Navigating the Mountain Bike Park

The mountain bike park is big and can be confusing so downloading trail forks is a must-do will give you a detailed description of all trails in the park and how to navigate your way through!

You can access from Kaiteriteri starting at the bottom or just 15 / 20 mins from The Barn or you can head to the top of the Marahau hill ( 10 min drive) where you’ll see a big pullover bay with a forestry gate tucked in the back corner head through there and up the hill you’ll find a T – junction take a right there then you’ll follow that forest road which will take you to the top trails you’ll see the small signs letting you know which trails are where!!

If you are looking to hire a mountain bike we recommend Kiwi Journeys!
